    Job Description
    The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery to manage and process salvaged materials in a salvage yard. This role requires skillful operation of equipment such as excavators, loaders, and cranes to efficiently sort, load, and move scrap and salvage materials while adhering to safety regulations and operational procedures. Experience performing routine inspections and maintenance on equipment Preforming routine inspections and maintenance on equipment Keep work area and equipment in safe and clean condition Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Provide great customer service by providing prompt service and properly inspecting and identifying material Communicate with manager and other staff through verbal, written, and/or radio communication Load and unload customers with and without heavy equipment Loading trucks for shipment with processed metals Cooperate with and exhibit respect to all employees, customers and visitors. Using excavator with mounted shear to cut materials to specified size Receive unprocessed materials and sort/separate material by grade and type. Qualifications Will provide training but previous experience operating heavy equipment such as excavator, loader, skid loader Strong understanding of safety procedures related to heavy equipment operation Ability to work well as a team and independently Basic understanding of the different metal types Experience with loading semi and understanding legal weights Ability to understand basic measurements This is a safety-sensitive position. Therefore, ability to operate in an alert and safe manner is required Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving equipment and machinery, scrap materials, and outside weather conditions. The employee is regularly required to wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, safety-toe shoes, hardhat, protective eyewear, gloves, and hearing protection. The workload may be unpredictable, and pressure can be substantial during peak times. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and feet to operate crane and shear. The employee is frequently required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand.
