Corn Palace Director
This position is a community leader and Department Head for the City of Mitchell. Pursuing, promoting, and providing events and services for a local and regional demographic in the areas of tourism, education, athletics, and entertainment are the focus of this position. Insuring that the Corn Palace maintains it's reputation as an Iconic Historic Building with modern amenities to attract all generations and interest groups is a goal. The person in this position leads a dedicated staff in providing a facility that performs to the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and customer service.
Develops budget requests and manages approved funds. Hires, trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel. Develops and implements long- and short-term strategic plans. Supervises the building and facilities maintenance. Coordinates Corn Palace programs and events. Coordinates the annual Corn Palace Festival. Coordinates contracts with entertainment, light and sound professionals, booking agents, and midway companies. Represents the department on a variety of boards and committees. Prepares contracts for review and approval by the Corn Palace Events & Entertainment Committee and/or City Council as required. Prepares a variety of regular and special reports. Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of budget management procedures. Knowledge of facilities management principles. Knowledge of contract management principles. Knowledge of personnel management principles. Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the operation and maintenance of audio-visual equipment. Skill in management and supervision. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in preparing and delivering public presentations.
?SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over the Assistant Corn Palace Director (1) and Corn Palace Maintenance Supervisor (1). Other staff includes a Media and Building Specialist (1), Building Maintenance Technicians (3) and Building Service Workers (2) as well as part-time personnel.
Bachelor's Degree in related field. Three to five years experience in related field. Possession of or ability to obtain a South Dakota Driver's license.
