The Mitchell Republic is looking for a reporter to provide context and depth to its cops and court beat.
Do you like the daily routine going to the courthouse and combing through jail logs to find the best crime stories? Are you interested in looking for patterns and trends to find out what is really going on in a community? Are you the type of reporter who enjoys writing stories to explain the impact and significance of crimes on people and the community?
Then the Mitchell Republic, an award-winning newspaper, would like you to apply.
Our team of reporters and editors focus on chasing the news of the day, writing people-driven narratives and exploring enterprise stories to provide context and meaning to life in southeastern South Dakota.
The Mitchell Republic is family owned and offers a competitive salary, excellent benefits package with health, dental and vision insurance, 401K and paid time off.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or reporting experience, which could include working at your college newspaper. Accuracy and the ability to write clean, crisp copy in a fast-paced environment is a must. The best candidates also have the ability to take photos and videos, or the willingness to learn. A valid driver's license with a record insurable by the company is required.
