• Part-Time Shelter Advocate

    Mitchell Area Safehouse
    Job Description
    Hours: 20-24 hours per week, 3 pm to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday. On-call rotation
     
    Salary: 13.00 -13.50 per hour
     
    Qualifications:
    • AA/BS Degree in human services or related field and/or equivalent experience. 
    • Basic knowledge, understanding and experience working with victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault preferred.
    • Good listener, self-motivated, able to relate well with others.
    • Ability to respond effectively to crises.
    • Oral and written communications skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft office programs. 
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Organizational and time management skills.
    • Access to reliable transportation, and have valid driver’s license.
     
    Responsibilities:
    • Promote a clean, harmonious and welcoming environment.
    • Make direct contact daily and ensure that the basic needs of all residents are met during their stay including but not limited to; food, clothing, bedding, and medical needs.
    • Work closely with the shelter staff to communicate needs and to ensure seamless continuity of services.
    • Document all interactions as required and expected including but not limited to; special requests, incidents, and other concerns.
    • Maintain safety and security precautions.
    • Work closely with volunteers when they are assisting with residents and/or shelter activities.
    • Work closely with the Shelter Director/Supervisor to identify and address all facility maintenance in timely fashion.
    • Respond to emergency requests and/or needs by residents.
    • Oversee cleanliness and orderliness of the facility.
    • Perform routine clerical tasks including but not limited to; answering the telephone, maintaining office space.
    • Coordination of the Women’s & Children’s Group and supervision of children during educational classes as needed.
