    Corn Palace Gift Shop
    Job Description
    POSITION:                        Summer Intern 
    DEPARTMENT:  Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce Enterprise Division
    REPORTS TO:    Tourism Enterprise Director 
    FUNCTION:          Obtain experience in area of retail management, merchandising, inventory control and running a small business 


    • Assists in managing the retail and wholesale business of the Corn Palace Gift Shop. Including: purchasing, retail merchandising, online sales and inventory control for summer and year-round gift/souvenir shops. 
    • Assists in coordination of retail promotions and events 
    • Assists in planning, training and implementing procedures in a small business environment 
    • Assists in website order fulfillment  
    • Assists in daily gift shop operations
    • Assists in gift shop merchandising and buying 
    • Assists in developing gift shop employee and visitor center staff schedules
    • Assists in the marketing efforts for the gift shop through social media platforms
    • Other duties as assigned 


    Valid Drivers’ License 


    • Post high school and/or college courses in a business related field
    • Experience in retail, sales or management is preferred
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks
    • Willing to work weekends and evenings
    • Professional appearance 
    • A willingness to learn 
    • Use of sound judgement and decision making
    • Able to use computer and office equipment 
    • Some physical requirements 


    Wage based upon the combination of experience and education. Approximately 20-30 hours per week during the summer tourism season. Mid May through Labor Day. Hours can be flexible between 8:00am and 9:00pm.
