    Job Description

    Mitchell Technical College (MTC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Electrical Construction & Maintenance Instructor to join our team for the Fall 2026 semester. This full-time faculty position offers the rewarding opportunity to train the next generation of skilled electricians in a high-demand trade while working in a supportive, hands-on learning environment.


    Program Overview

    The Electrical Construction & Maintenance (ECM) program at Mitchell Technical College is an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree that provides comprehensive training in residential and commercial wiring, maintenance, and new construction. Students gain practical skills in electrical theory, conduit bending, National Electrical Code (NEC) application, blueprint reading, motor controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), fiber optic and data cabling, estimating, and troubleshooting. The program combines classroom instruction with extensive hands-on laboratory experiences and prepares graduates for immediate employment as well as 2,000 hours toward South Dakota Journeyman Electrician certification.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum of three (3) years or 6,000 hours of experience in the electrical field.
    • Journeyman Electrician license preferred.
    • Associate’s degree preferred (or willingness to obtain one).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical theory, principles, conduit bending, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
    • Ability to pass a state and federal criminal background check.

    • Passion for teaching and training with a high level of integrity, honesty, and professionalism.
    • Strong communication skills, adaptability to change, ability to work collaboratively in groups, and a customer-oriented mindset.
    • Prior teaching experience, evidence of effective instructional skills, and experience working with diverse populations.
    • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Teach assigned courses in the Electrical Construction & Maintenance program.
    • Assess student progress in classroom and laboratory settings.
    • Develop and update curriculum to meet current industry standards and workforce needs.
    • Assist with student recruiting, advising, and retention efforts.
    • Provide leadership in both academic and workforce development areas to fulfill the educational goals of the ECM program and Mitchell Technical College.
